WGM Anna Sharevich comments on the 4th round’s games

koval_ju.jpgKovalevskaya Ekaterina – Ju Wenjun

This game happened to finish the first in the 4th round. In the opening white didn’t manage to get any advantage and the position became drawn very soon. The endgame arose and it wasn’t any problem for the both sides to make an easy draw. So, Ekaterina Kovalevskaya made the 4th draw in a row. And on the question: “Katya, do you have any other result except a draw?”, she smiled and said that earlier she had managed to win the games also (laughed). But she lost many games during this year and considered draw to be a normal result. What concerned the game the Russian grandmaster added that maybe she had overestimated her position, because had thought it to be better.

During the free day girls hope to get acquainted with the sightseeings of Nalchik, because they both are for the first time here.

Ekaterina Kovalevskaya: «Children is my happiness»
Wednesday, 12 October 2011

121011_kovalevskaya.jpgThis time we have been talking about the life of Russian chessplayer, the vice-world champion, double Russian champion Ekaterina Kovalevskaya.

- What moment in your life was the happiest?

It was a birth of my son. I think it is the happiest moment in the life of every woman. Especially for me because he is the long-awaited child, very late. I had given a birth to him when I was thirty six. Vova was born, I saw him...and everything changed. When my husband asked me: «Can you compare it with your emotions when you reached the final of the World
championship?».What final??? It is important, remarkably, but so less significant! I sincerely wish all women to feel the same. Because inspite of your professional activity, real happiness is children!

Do you have an idol, person which you are guided?

– I don’t have an idol, but there are people who have a harmonious life. I sincerely admire those people who live full life, succeeding in business and in a family.

- Do you have free time for your hobby?

– I don’t like to miss my favorite movies. Everything depends on my mood: sometimes I would like to watch a melodrama, sometimes our soviet cinema. Actually I’m a big fan of the criminal serials connected with murders. People are shocked: «How can you watch such bloody films?».

Stefanova and Chmilyte Russian roulette

cmilyte-stefanova.jpgWGM Anna Sharevich comments the 3rd round games

Stefanova Antoaneta – Cmilyte Viktorija

This game is really worth to be the most interesting and full of action battle of the round. After the opening the evaluation changed after every move, especially what concerned the play in a time trouble. Indian defense appeared in the opening. Viktorija got a better position, then winning position… But that was only the beginning of the real battle. After move 28… Qf7? Antoaneta had great chances to win the game. Because of a short time the former world champion didn’t manage to calculate the best possibilities and missed the advantage after 31.Bh4. The game ended with a perpetual in the queens endgame with 2 extra pawns for black.

The press-conference was held in a friendly and warm atmosphere. Girls joked and laughed at the game, because they both understood that it was like a Russian roulette. When Antoaneta heard that the program had evaluated the position as +4.5, she exclaimed: “What? Only +4.5!” and laughed. She added that probably 18.Rb1 had been a big mistake, after what 18… f5 had brought the whole initiative to black.

Viktorija added that the game had been very interesting and that move 22… h5 had given all the winning сhances to white.
Anyway the mood of the girls was great and we wish all of them good luck in the next round.

Tuesday, 11 October 2011
111011-n.kosintseva.jpgIt’s the second interview from the series of materials where our heroes will tell about their life out of chessboard.

What kind of presents do you like to get?
I like presents in itself. But most of all I like to make them.

– And what about shopping? How often do you update your clothes?
Shopping is my weakness (smiles).  It doesn’t matter what tournaments I play and even it doesn’t depend on the result,  I should  buy something.

How do you prefer to rest?
My rest is quite passive.  I like reading, thinking about life and just doing nothing.
