Monday, 17 October 2011
171011_zhao.jpgChinese chess player Zhao Xue virtually ensured her victory in the stage of Grand-Prix FIDE in Nalchik. Over three rounds before the finish her advantage over her nearest persecutor Ju Wenjun is already 3 points.

On Monday Xue with white defeated one of her potential chasers Nadezhda Kosintseva. The Russian player unluckily weakened her position in the center and on the kingside, which was skillfully used by the Chinese. Sacrificing the exchange she seized the initiative and in tactical complications beat the opponent.

Zhao’s main competitors were not so successful in the eighth round: Ju Wenjun with black lost to Batkhuyag Mongontuul, for Mongolian chess player this win was the first on the tournament. Viktorija Chmilyte made a draw with Alisa Galliamova, Antoaneta Stefanova was defeated by Zhu Chen.

Alexandra Kosteniuk won her  second victory on this tournament.  She beat Ekaterina Kovalevskaya with black pieces. The game of Katerina Lahno and Tatiana Kosintseva ended in a draw.

Tuesday will be a day off on the tournament. The games of the ninth round will be held on Wednesday, October 19.
