There were many VIP guests in the hall waiting for the FIDE President Kirsan Ilyumzhinov  and the president of KBR Arsen Kanokov to appear. Inspite of the official status of the event the atmosphere was festive.

The charming presenter greeted the guests and the participants of the competition. They had an opportunity to see the short concert organized with the help of local artists of Kabardino-Balkaria. The representatives from China  Ju Wenjun and Zhao Xue liked the world famous children’s  ensemble  “Zori Kavkaza”  which  demonstrated the beauty of the national costume and the peculiarities of the national dance.

The president of Kabardino-Balkaria Arsen Kanokov wished the participants of the competition not only good luck during the games but also an opportunity to get acquainted with the inner culture of the region.

The president of FIDE Kirsan Ilyumzhinov joked that he was almost upset when somebody appealed to him “ our dear guest”. “ I’m not a guest,-he said,-I come here with the feeling as I am at  home!”

At the end of his speech he pointed that Nalchik had become one of  the Chess centers of the World. Than he unveiled the third stage of the Grand-prix Fide.

The chief arbiter of the tournament Erdem Ucarkuc made the pairings and  we found out the six pairs of the participants  for the first day of the competition.

Antoaneta Stefanova was absent, because her way to Nalchik took more time than she thought. She had to take some planes from Sofia to Vienna, from Vienna to Moscow, to avoid Moscow traffic jam during the transfer from one airport to another one. And finally she took the plane from Moscow to Nalchik. Well, the whole way to the place of the competition took her more than 20 hours. Her number was taken by the young girl-dancer.

Later there was a dinner with the participation of The President of Kabardino-Balkaria Arsen Kanokov , the president of FIDE  Kirsan Ilyumzhinov and the competitors.
